A very personal custom project. Using just one surviving photograph of our client’s great-grandfather, we recreated his wartime Feldbluse as closely as possible.

From a Family Photograph to a Recreated Feldbluse

Some of our favourite projects begin with much more than simply choosing a uniform from our website.

For this particular project, a client contacted us with a photograph of his great-grandfather wearing his wartime uniform. His wish was to recreate the Feldbluse shown in that photograph as closely as possible.

What made the project especially interesting was that only one photograph was available.

That meant every visible detail had to be studied carefully. The style of the Feldbluse, collar insignia, shoulder boards, breast eagle and ribbon bar all had to be considered using the original photograph as our main reference.

Our goal was not to create a generic uniform of the period, but to produce something that visually represented the uniform worn by his great-grandfather.

The finished Feldbluse was then photographed together with the original family portrait.

For us, projects like this are some of the most enjoyable work we do. There is something particularly rewarding about taking an old family photograph and turning it into a physical historical reproduction that the family can keep, display or use for a historical impression.

Every project is different. Sometimes customers have several photographs and detailed information about the individual. Other times, as in this case, we have only a single photograph to work from.

Either way, we are always happy to investigate what is visible and discuss what can realistically be recreated.
